Jesus' humble birth a reminder of God's love for humanity, pope says By Junno Arocho Esteves Catholic News Service VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- The birth of the son of God in a humble stable, in the presence of both lowly shepherds and majestic Magi, is a "universal event that concerns all of humanity," Pope Francis said. During his weekly general audience Dec. 22, the pope said that only through humility can one truly understand God and oneself because it "opens us up to the experience of truth, of authentic joy, of knowing what matters." "The Magi may have even been great according to the world's logic, but they made themselves lowly, humble, and precisely because of this they succeeded in finding Jesus and recognizing him. They accepted the humility of seeking, of setting out on a journey, of asking, of taking a risk, of making a mistake," he said. (CNS) -- The creaking sound of the swaying chains was eerie. What usually held the red candle above the tabernacle in Resurrection Church in Dawson Springs was now an empty metal structure suspended by chains, spinning in the cold December wind but not quite hitting the damaged walls on either side of it. Hank and Lesley Mills, driving to check on the church around 6:30 a.m. Dec. 11, had discovered that Resurrection was among the area's structures devastated by the tornadoes -- and that the Blessed Sacrament had made it through the storm in the sturdy tabernacle. "I've never seen anything like this in my life," Lesley Mills told The Western Kentucky Catholic, newspaper of the Owensboro Diocese, in an interview Dec. 15. On July 28, 2021, Father Adam Kotas abandoned his parish in the Diocese of Santa Rosa and defected from the Roman Catholic Church. At present, he is a member of the schismatic Polish National Catholic Church (PNCC) founded in 1897 by Reverend Francis Hodur, who led Pennsylvania parishioners away from the Roman Catholic Church. For a period of three years, Father Kotas was "on loan" to the Diocese of Las Vegas before voluntarily returning to his home Diocese of Santa Rosa.
